A Frugal Moms Tips to Pinch that Penny a Little Harder

 Sunday, June 28

Have your family save all their change for the year. You will be surprised at how quickly your pocket change ads up! Save it as a family to use for next years vacation or for something the family you all have agreed on. Have some family time by saving your coffee cans. Have each member of the household decorate them up, cut a slit in the top and your set to go!

Stop wasting money on expensive coffee on your drive to work. Get a cheap insulated mug with a lid. Daily coffee runs can really add up! Brewing your own only costs pennies.

I use powdered milk to cook with and my daughter drinks it. My husband refuses to drink it. He Say's he will only drink 2% but what he doesn't know is that as the level of milk goes down I replace it with water! By the time it's empty I'm sure it was less than skim milk. Oh if he only knew! Shhhh!

I won't waste money on training pants while I'm potty training my daughter. I about fell over when I priced them at the store! I purchased 8 pairs of the good Ole fashioned plastic training pants, regular little girl panties, and for night time the thick cotton training pants. She is just so proud of her big girl panties!

Fun for the Kids!

 Thursday, May 14

Here are some DYI recipes for fun kid crafts! Inexpensive and fun! Um except for maybe the clean up after the kids get done! Isn't it worth it? Wait, even better send the recipes with your kids to overnight stays with Grandma;)

FINGERPAINTS
Recipe 1
Mix 1 1/2 cups starch with enough cold water to make a paste. Slowly add 4 cups boiling water, stirring constantly. Cook until clear, avoiding too hot a fire. While still warm, stir in 1 1/2 cups soap flakes. Add 2 tablespoons glycerin. Add food coloring to portion which will be used immediately and store the remainder in the refrigerator in a covered jar. These paints work best on glazed paper such as shelf paper.

Homemade Chalk

What You Need:

  • Toilet tissue tube (or an ice cube tray to create smaller chunks)
  • Duct tape
  • Aluminum foil if you are using a toilet paper tube (or petroleum jelly if you’re using an ice cube tray)
  • Disposable plastic container
  • Plaster of Paris
  • Water
  • Liquid tempera paint
  • Spoon

__________________________________________________________

Now What:

1
Cover one end of the toilet paper tube with duct tape. Loosely roll an 8- by-41/2-inch piece of aluminum foil and slip it into the tube so that it lines the inside, fitting snugly. (Or coat the inside of the ice cube tray with petroleum jelly.)

2
Set tube upright (duct tape side down) on protected surface.

3
In a disposable plastic container, help your child mix 1 cup plaster of Paris with 1/2 cup water. Stir slowly and thoroughly until plaster is dissolved, about 1 minute.

4
Immediately add 2 tablespoons paint (or more for brighter chalk color, but be careful it can stain). Mix thoroughly.

5
Spoon into the tube (or ice cube tray). Tap gently so mixture settles to the bottom.

6
Let dry overnight before using.

Care

 Thursday, May 7

I found this cool site today called care.com. It's a website that you can search for childcare, nannies, senior care, pet sitters, and house keepers. I am looking for someone to sit for my dog over memorial weekend so I don't have to take him to the kennel. This site is awesome! You can sign up for free or with a fee upgrade to run background checks on all the peeps you are interested in hiring. You can also post on there that you are looking for an evening babysitter or like me a dog sitter for the weekend. When I searched in Topeka there were a lot of people looking for jobs as care givers and house keepers. Just wanted to share my new resource! Check it out!;)

This is me

 Wednesday, May 6

The first summer following the purchase of my home I found an abundance of beautiful purple flowers blooming behind my garage. Excited I got to work right away transplanting these flowers into my flower garden. I spent hours doing this! Proud of my find, I bragged to a co worker who is the daughter of a florist and an avid gardener. I invited her to my home to admire them with me. She took one look smiled and began to laugh, exclaimed "Victoria those are not flowers those are WEEDS!

In it's Banana Cage

 Tuesday, April 21

If you come over to my house and your nose picks up on a funky odor, please don't be alarmed, it's probably just my 2 year old daughter's left over snack. If you ask her where she put her banana she will innocently throw her hands up shrug her shoulders and say "I was done with it, I put it in it's cage" So please if you know what a banana cage is please let me know! I guess now it's just a waiting game for the rotten smell and gnat's to lead the way!

Buy Me Some Peanuts and Cracker Jacks!

 Saturday, April 18

Baseball has been a part of me since being in my mothers womb. I cherish the hot sticky nights watching the yanks play on T.V. with my family. Sitting out in the sun at the community ball park watching my brother play, and my Daddy coaching. My dad used to be a runner. On occasion I would accompany my dad. I would play and wait with anticipation for him to run that final lap around the high school track. Then we would climb to the top of the bleachers and "watch" Chicago Cubs games together. I of course would treat my dad to the closed concession stand hot dogs, soda, and crackerjacks. Can't watch a game without it! Easter Sunday my brother and I headed out to the ball park to watch our Yanks play the Royals. It was cold, very cold. It rained on us almost the entire game. The wind almost blew us away. I am not smart enough to put on a jacket and even dumber for sporting my pink flips. I think my pigs are just now in the last stages of thawing. We were almost alone in our section. I take that back I think we almost had the park to ourselves. Real fans stay until the end. Rain or blistering hot sun I'm dedicated to my boys until the end. We lost that game. Disappointed at the loss, cold and wet; that day at the old ball game with my big brother ranks at the top of my favorite days list. I had a blast! Thanks Brian! One day I will see them on their turf in NYC.
